About the Position: Serves as the Assistant Chief of Training for the Fire Protection and Prevention Division. This position has been identified as a secondary position and has been approved for firefighter special retirement coverage. In order to qualify for secondary coverage, the incumbent must meet the transfer requirements.

Duties

As the Assistant Chief of Training, you will be responsible for: Manage the comprehensive fire protection training, safety, and hazardous material handling programs at the installation. Responsible for planning a comprehensive program of on the job, proficiency and certification training for all Fire and Emergency personnel. Assign and direct work of subordinates who administer program activities. Develop lesson plans for recurring proficiency training utilizing methods following established policy and procedures. Prepare monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual training schedules for approval. Conduct recurring proficiency training in each functional area of fire protection.

Requirements

• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening and random testing there after, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires wearing a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• This position requires a 56-hour weekly tour (includes weekends, nights, and/or holidays) with one night over each week and is subject to recall to duty, as required.
• This position requires participation in the DoD Physical Fitness Training Program IAW DoD NFPA requirements.
• This position may require the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions. The incumbent may be subject to dense smoke, flames, extreme heat, cold, dust, water, and possible explosions as well as exposure to toxic fumes and materials.
• Incumbent must be able to maintain necessary alertness, self-control, and emotional stability under emergency conditions.
