This position is located within the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC), located at the Salt Lake City Healthcare System in Salt Lake City, UT. The position is responsible for planning, directing, and conducting both formative and summative program evaluations, curriculum development, and leading geriatric education and training activities related to the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) research, education, and clinical programs.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provides geriatric education/training for multi-disciplinary VA clinical staff, and trainees in medicine, psychology, pharmacy, nursing, social work, and other allied health professions. Oversees the GRECC geriatric education/training program, including collaborating with GRECC and non-GRECC geriatric educators to plan, develop, implement, and manage aging ­related education (e.g., in-service staff and continuing education activities) programs. Disseminates educational models and products to improve the geriatric knowledge and skills of trainees, residents, and VA employees locally, regionally, and nationally. Mentors and helps develop other geriatric educators, including clinical staff and trainees, providing leadership, guidance and consultation. Serves as consultant to GRECC staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological aspects of the aging population. Seeks out and acts upon opportunities to collaborate with other GRECC AD/EEs, regarding programs and personnel. Oversees the GRECC evaluation program, including evaluation of its education activities, evaluation of its research activities in collaboration with the GRECC Associate Director for Research, and evaluation of its clinical demonstration project program in collaboration with the GRECC Associate Director for Clinical Innovation. Formulates and conducts original clinical research in an area of gerontology/geriatrics. Ensures completion of goals of research projects, maintains budgets, and timelines to achieve aims of the project. Encouraged to apply for grant funding by preparing competitive scientific research proposals for consideration of funding. Prepares manuscripts and presents findings at National meetings/conferences. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, ALL applicants must meet the following qualifications requirements: Basic Education Requirement: Successfully completed a bachelor's degree (or higher) with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application to receive consideration. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~AND~ Specialized Experience: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience include: knowledge of the theories, principles, concepts, methods and state of the art technologies used in geriatric health services research; leading geriatric education and training activities related to the geriatric research; manages training and developing of other geriatric educators, including clinical staff and trainees, providing leadership, guidance and consultation; and provides technical advice and guidance to managers and researchers. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Physical Requirements: Must be in overall good health, able to sit at a desk working at a computer, engage in light to moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. Must be able to perform primarily light to sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands, exercise patience, and control emotions, with reasonable accommodation, if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of self or others. Position requires walking throughout the Medical Center, standing for extended periods of time, and involves sitting at a computer and in counsel and consultation with subordinates, Supervisors, other employees, and stakeholders. This position also requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
