This Associate Director of Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) position within the GRECC office of Geriatrics and Extended Care, is located at Salt Lake City Healthcare System. Incumbent is responsible for planning, directing, and conducting both formative and summative program evaluations, curriculum development, and leading geriatric education and training activities related to the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) research, education, and clinical programs.

Duties

Provides geriatric education/training for multi-disciplinary VA clinical staff, and trainees in medicine, psychology, pharmacy, nursing, social work, and other allied health professions. Oversees the GRECC geriatric education/training program, including collaborating with GRECC and non-GRECC geriatric educators to plan, development, and manage aging-related education (e.g., in-service staff and continuing education activities) programs; disseminates educational models and products to improve the geriatric knowledge and skills of trainees, residents, and VA employees locally, regionally, and nationally. Mentors and helps develop other geriatric educators, including clinical staff and trainees, providing leadership, guidance and consultation. Serves as consultant to GRECC staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological aspects of the aging population. Seeks out and acts upon opportunities to collaborate with other GRECC AD/EEs, regarding programs and personnel. Oversees the GRECC evaluation program, including evaluation of its education activities, evaluation of its research activities in collaboration with the GRECC Associate Director for Research, and evaluation of its clinical demonstration project program in collaboration with the GRECC Associate Director for Clinical Innovation. Eligible for, and highly encouraged, to pursue or hold a faculty appointment at the University of Utah. Formulates and conducts original clinical research in an area of gerontology/geriatrics. Ensures completion of goals of research projects, maintains budgets, and timelines to achieve aims of the project. Encouraged to apply for grant funding by preparing competitive scientific research proposals for consideration of funding. Prepares manuscripts and presents findings at National meetings/conferences. Collaborates with the GRECC Director, other Associate Directors and Administrative Officer on GRECC strategic planning, completion of GRECC annual reports, preparation for GGAC site visits, and meeting with REC and VISN leadership. Serves on local, VISN and/or National education committees. Serve as an ex-officio member of the GRECC Advisory Subcommittee, at the discretion of the GRECC Director and Advisory Subcommittee Chair. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/22/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-14 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Individual Occupational Requirement: For positions at grades GS-12 and above involved in professional work in grants administration, qualifying experience is considered to be experience in grants administration in areas of science, medical and health care fields similar or related to the work of the position. Such experience must have involved professional judgement of a kind and level of difficulty and responsibility essential to successful performance in the position to be filled (Deputy Associate Chief of Staff). You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-13 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Candidate must have human research experience at the senior-management level with a PhD, equivalent or higher education level who demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully lead research activities on fiscal, operations, and administrative requirements. Certifications and credentials in Contracting, Procurement, and/or Grant Management are essential. AND, Education: Applicants must have education within the normal progression of this field. For a GS-12 in Research & Development Service, this is a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: #232 Project ManagementCommunicationsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Planning and EvaluatingResearch Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Must be in overall good health, able to sit at a desk working at a computer, engage in light to moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. Must be able to perform primarily light to sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands, exercise patience, and control emotions, with reasonable accommodation if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of self or others. Position requires walking throughout the Medical Center, standing for extended periods of time, and involves sitting at a computer and in counsel and consultation with subordinates, Supervisors, other employees, and stakeholders. This position also requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
