This position is organizationally aligned to Blind Rehabilitation Services, with the Central Blind Rehabilitation Center at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital (578) - a complexity Level 1a VHA facility. The employee serves as a Program Support Assistant under the supervision of the Blind Rehabilitation Services (BRS) Assistant Chief.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct clerical and administrative support to the Blind Rehabilitation Service, to include the Central Blind Rehabilitation Center inpatient and outpatient programs, Visual Impairment Services Team (VIST), Blind Rehabilitation Outpatient Services (BROS) and outpatient service through Visual Impairment Centers to Optimize Remaining Sight (VICTORS). Major duties listed but are not limited to: Performs work involving the administration, coordination and distribution processes for each patient receiving equipment (prosthetic devices and or the aids for the blind/visually impaired items) both during and after discharge from the inpatient and outpatient program(s) Assists in maintaining stock of prosthetics devices for a thirty-four-bed inpatient unit, and outpatient services Compiles, and tracks prosthetic/equipment lists, and items issued to patients during the program and at discharge and follows up on overdue items post discharge through management of a database Collecting, compilating, and/or tracking of data and statistical information which is entered into the Blind Rehabilitation Service data base to maintain current inventory levels Manages an inventory of expendable and non-expendable items Applies inventory principles, methodologies, and concepts in response to fluctuations due to availability based off suppliers, alternative sources of supply, and other similar conditions Conducts market research on product pricing and performance Interacts with stakeholders (Prosthetic and Supply Chain departments) to balance supply and equipment issues/constraints to meet the priorities and needs of our visually impaired Veterans Supports other functions of the program such as administering uSPEQ surveys Staff Assistance- supports Blind Rehabilitation Services employees that have identified reasonable accommodation needs Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm (Work schedule may be further discussed during interview) Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/01/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: work involving the administration, coordination and distribution processes for each patient receiving equipment (prosthetic devices and or the aids for the blind/visually impaired items); compiles, and tracks prosthetic/equipment lists, and items issued to patients during the program and at discharge and follows up on overdue items post discharge through management of a database; collecting, compilating, and/or tracking of data and statistical information which is entered into the Blind Rehabilitation Service data base to maintain current inventory levels. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Work Environment: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, or libraries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Education

As a general rule, education is not credible above the GS-5 level for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
