About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Army Medical Center Madigan, Dir of Behavioral Health, Psychology Services located in Tacoma, Washington.

Duties
Assess patients' mental status to distinguish type of case and to discriminate between routine, complex, and/or emergency cases.
Observe for thought content, paranoiac, homicidal or suicidal thoughts, inappropriate behavior or behavioral changes, and reaction to medications.
Process patients for outpatient appointments or admission, searching belongings for contraband weapons, drugs, or alcohol.
Participate with care plans and discharge planning, team meetings, community meetings, and other therapeutic groups.
Take and record vital signs; collect and deliver specimens; assist with physical examinations and glucose monitoring; assist with administering psychological tests.
Manage equipment inventory, ensure ward/unit equipment is in proper working order.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- Position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- Position has a requirement to lift up to 30lbs.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- Position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
- Position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Experience required for GS-06: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:providing nursing care to patients with a variety of health problems; and/or monitoring and reporting patient behavior. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Nursing or a related field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
