Duties
-Serve as Area Office receptionist; route and screen incoming calls, record messages, provide administrative and technical information to callers, refers visitors to the appropriate staff.
-Process all incoming/outgoing mail received at the Area Office; assist staff in interpreting instructions and establishing follow-up action of incoming correspondence, utilize electronic filing system to organize correspondence records.
-Serve as meeting recorder for staff meetings and consultations; record minutes, prepare and maintain lists of assignments made during staff meetings.
-Review outgoing correspondence for completeness, accuracy, conformance to style and format policies and free of grammatical and spelling errors.
-Utilize several types of software to create mailing lists, develop tracking spreadsheets, presentations, and maintain files and records.
Qualifications

GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the GS-05 level; or its non-Federal equivalent that includes experience performing receptionist duties such as routing phone calls; reviewing outgoing correspondence for grammatical and spelling accuracy and adherence to format policies; maintaining electronic records; and providing sound customer service and support to internal and external customers.
This position requires a qualified typist who can type at least 40 words per minute.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).
You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 04/01/2024.
Education
This position does not allow substituting education for experience.
