You will serve as a Geographer in the Marine Corps Intelligence Activity (MCIA) of HQ US MARINE CORPS,, providing technical expertise in the planning, development, creation, analysis and dissemination of geospatial intelligence products/data.
All Defense Intelligence positions under the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) are in the excepted service by specific statute, 10 U.S.C. 1601. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.
Duties
You will perform highly complex analysis and production tasks relative to various types of geographic products derived from the use of a Geographic Information System (GIS).
You will be responsible for evaluating new software and geospatial processing techniques to ensure the state-of-the-art GIS capabilities are maintained within the Marine Corps.
You will use a thorough understanding of military geography and work with customers to analyze requirements, and assist in developing concise product requests.
You will be proficient in the use of ESRI's ArcGIS Pro desktop mapping application and ArcGIS Enterprise Suite using the software in the performance of map production, geospatial data management and analysis into an enterprise geodatabase.
You will provide tailored, steady-state and contingency geospatial support, generating customized Geographic Information System (GIS) products using all available commercial and DoD data sources.
You will acquire geospatial, imagery and/or intelligence source data for GEOINT production, and as appropriate, incorporate into all-source intelligence.
You will establish and maintain a network of technical expert contacts within DoD, the Intelligence and International Community and supporting partners for collaboration.
You will be responsible for ensuring all products and data are properly archived for future retrieval.
Requirements

- You must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). Failure to do so may result in the withdrawal of an offer or removal. Indicate the level and date of your clearance in your resume.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

- This position may require a two-year DCIPS trial period requirement.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GG/GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1. Experience with cartographic techniques; 2. Knowledge and utilization of geographic tools and software; 3. Knowledge and utilization of enterprise geodatabases and GIS portal applications; 4. Knowledge and understanding of military geography; 5 Knowledge and understanding of human geography; Experience with python scripting; and strong communication skills.

Education
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
1. Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
