You will serve as an Electronics Technician in Code 293, Combat Systems Division, Engineering & Planning Department of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will serve as Senior System Technician for major electronics/electrical engineering projects associated with the functional design, performance evaluation and reliability of various types of submarine weapons systems and their components. You will coordinate with other engineers and technicians to ensure that all system areas are covered. You will evaluate project objectives. You will prepare correspondence, technical reports, fact sheets, status reports to complete project assignments. You will assist in training new engineers and technicians in the organization. You will perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing expertise for major electronics/electrical engineering projects associated with the functional design, performance of various types of submarine weapon systems and components; Experience directing the planning, installation, and testing of equipment and systems involved during a ship's overhaul period; Experience preparing and reviewing correspondence, such as Job Summaries, Task Group Instruments (TGI's), Deficiency Logs(DL's) Deficiency Reports (DR's), technical reports, estimates, status reports, instructions and procedures; Experience in negotiating projects with managers and ship force support to gain approval and testing authority.
