You will serve as an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) in the Sepctrum Warfare Department of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will provide subject matter expertise on complex system architecture, network design, group policies, remote administration, or advanced cyber security technology implementation. You will support this team’s success by mentoring and guiding the team members in a highly technically and politically challenging field. You will assist with tasking, coordinating and managing cybersecurity activities for a group of ISSO and SA team members. You will act as a member of the lead subject matter experts for the customer and/or organization and must regularly and clearly communicate with the laboratory representatives and leadership. You will review and development cybersecurity policies and procedures, participate and/or conduct activities related to user awareness and education, project management, risk communication and team building.

  • MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code 451, proficiency level B-Basic, the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Designing network topologies, and installing, setup, and sustaining network routers/switches. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Providing subject matter expertise on complex system architecture, network design, group policies, remote administration, or advanced cyber security technology implementation. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Communicating both technical and business requirements, ensuring that the team members are appropriately placed and supported to support a large number of unique customers. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Building desktop computer systems and servers, adjusting BIOS settings, driver installation and troubleshooting, and Windows/Unix/Linux shell commands. In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9/10) or pay band (DS-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN). Specialized experiences must include duties related to the following: (1) Assisting with troubleshooting failed system components, including both hardware and software components; (2) Assisting in installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems (Windows and Linux) and software; (3) Assisting with cybersecurity requirements including applying patches, updates, and STIGs for user desktops, laptops, and servers; and 4) Assisting the ISSO with the lab IT configuration management. Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
