This position is located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services of the VA Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.
Duties

Employee will be assigned to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services, VA Medical Center, Boise, Idaho, providing administrative and support functions to the service.
Duties may include, but not be limited to the following:
Receives calls, greets visitors, and directs to supervisor or other staff members only those contacts needing their attention or action.
Schedules and reviews the work performed and activities of the office, including reporting and recordkeeping; receives visitors and telephone calls to the office; maintains calendar for appropriate staff; and schedules appointments.
Composes correspondence on administrative support or clerical functions of the office.
Places necessary orders for PALMS Office supplies through Veteran's Imaging Products.
Schedules autopsies and transport of remains to and from autopsy site. Gathers medical center death and autopsy data and prepares monthly autopsy reports for VA central office. Coordinates coverage by on-call pathologist during Chief's absence, as requested. Researches and resolves pathology reporting issues and problems.
Performs office automation work; prepares meeting minutes; and utilizes various hardware and software in the performance of duties.
Prepares forms, memorandums, reports, and other correspondence, ensuring proper grammar, spelling, and format; and prepares and maintains current guidelines and manuals pertinent to the department.
Prepares travel arrangements for select staff; and coordinates conferences and meetings, including preparing agendas.
May serve as the backup transcriptionist; maintains files, reports, etc.; and enters data/reports into the computer.
Maintains an adequate stock of office supplies; maintains employee records; and serves as a government purchase card holder.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Receiving visitors and telephone calls to the office; scheduling appointments; coordinating meetings and conferences; preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; preparing travel arrangements; and maintaining files. Provides SNOMED (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine), QA (quality assurance), and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding as necessary for these reports.
Oversees and revises, pathology reporting a systematic method of laboratory document control according to the regulations and Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. Routs matters based on the knowledge of overall Hospital and Laboratory policies, and regulations.
Uses a purchase card to pay bills for the department.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of (4) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school.

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Combination of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Physical Requirements: The work demands periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items, reading, writing, telephone use, long periods of time at a computer terminal, and manual dexterity.
