Duties

You will prepare, coordinate, and conduct training, both academic and hands on. You will revise and adapt daily lesson plans, develop visual aids and handouts, and/or obtain training materials to accomplish training plan. You will provide demonstrations and summaries of lessons. You will develop, administer, and evaluate examinations to test and measure progress of apprentice. You will schedule and coordinate on-the-job training with various shops.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CDL license.
  • Must possess a National Center for Construction Education and Research craft instructor certification or obtain within six months of entering the position and renew every three years.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to instruct. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Repairing high voltage power generating and distributing equipment (e.g. generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawings and diagrams to identify electrical problems; 3) Using high voltage test tools (e.g. oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, and fault finding equipment); 4) Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers and fuses for main distribution lines over 600V; and 5) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on high voltage systems.
