Duties
You will install, modify, connect, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair low and high voltage breakers, protective devices, overhead and underground primary electrical distribution lines and similar equipment carrying voltages up to 69,000 Volts.
You will install transformers, capacitors, insulators, lightning arrestors, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, meters, protective devices, poles, and other accessories used in connection with main distribution lines of voltages up to 69,000 Volts.
You will locate faults and trouble spots on distribution lines by line inspection, and by use of various electrical testing instruments on equipment up to 69,000 Volts.
You will climb poles or work from overhead platforms to string overhead wire.
You will determine what equipment to use when working with live circuits and follow drawings or diagrams to perform work on circuits, distribution networks, or equipment interconnections.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- The position often requires irregular hours.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

WG-05: The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN HELPER without more than normal supervision:1) Assisting to install, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment; and 2) Preparing worksites and gathering/using necessary electrical tools and equipment.
WG-08: The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following: 1) Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers, and fuses in connection with main distribution lines; 2) Using test equipment such as ohmmeters, voltage testers, clamp-on ammeters, and meggers to determine high resistance, grounds and open circuits; 3) Climbing poles to string overhead wire; and 4) Driving bucket trucks to install and repair high voltage electrical equipment and cables.
