This position is part of the Office of the Secretary of Interior, IBC HRD Payroll Operations Division, Debt Management Branch (DMB). Incumbent performs a variety of collection duties such as Commercial Garnishments, Tax Levies, Child Support, Alimony, Bankruptcy, Treasury Offset Program among others, for third party debts and provide customer service to internal and external customers.
The selectee must physically report to the duty station. This is not a 100% remote position.
Duties
Serves as designated party, to accept legal service of process on employee's garnishment of wage.
Analyzes garnishment of wage orders and notifies employees in writing of wage orders.
Coordinates with the office of Solicitor for advice and guidance on legal matters relating to garnishment of wage orders.
Responds to interrogatories sent by a court or party issuing legal processes.
Coordinates with policy offices on debt management issues.
Qualifications
At the GS-09 level, you must meet one of the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes experience with a variety of payroll processing in an automated personnel payroll system and subsystems related to debt collection, researching and verifying the accuracy of payroll data, and experience with payroll rules and regulations.

B. A master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related in one of the following fields: Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Business Administration, HR Management, Communication, etc. (Note: Applicants who select this response must provide transcripts as verification of their education).

TIME-IN-GRADE: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
