Duties

Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the ABW Safety Office ensuring the ABW Safety Office complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Develops goals and objectives that integrate organization and ABW Safety Office objectives. Represents ABW Safety Office at a variety of installation and organizational functions.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below for the Safety and Occupational Health Management Series 0018 series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-03, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-13 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience in managing safety or occupational health program elements. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with Occupational Safety and health requirements. Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards, and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers. Advisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienists, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Comprehensive knowledge of applicable Department of Defense, Department of Labor and United States Air Force; occupational safety and health standards, weapons, explosives and nuclear standards, procedures, methods, techniques and regulations sufficient to assist subordinates in identifying and evaluating complex safety and occupational hazards in a wide variety of high risk activities involving industrial and manufacturing operations. Leadership level knowledge of occupational, flight and weapons safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to effectively manage, plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate 75 ABW Safety Office supervisors and employees. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. Ability to expertly and professionally communicate both orally and in writing. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is primarily sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items such as paper or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. WORK ENVIRONMENT he work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
