About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Program on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK.
This is a Flexible position not to exceed (NTE) 31-Oct-2024
Flexible employees have work schedules that depend on the needs of the activity. You may work a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 40 hours per week. You may be subjected to "on call" work in addition to hours posted on the schedule.
Duties
The intern is under the direction of the Outdoor Recreation Specialist. Trainee will carry out various planned programs such as instructional, educational, and recreational activities. Helps plan and direct programs such as: boating, climbing, hiking, fishing, and combination of programs or multi-day trips. Work assignment guidelines include established local and Air Force procedures, manuals, directives, and policies. Trainee will perform tasks designed to provide a practical understanding of the activities programs, policies, and objectives. Duties will develop trainee's analytical, judgmental, procedural, technical, and operational skills.
Working under the guidance of and in close association with senior personnel, performs a variety of work assignments consisting of established, specific, and related tasks that have been selected to orient the employee tin the practical application of basic principles, concepts and techniques of the occupational field. Assignments are selected based on their progressive training value for the individual. Performs limited aspects of recreation work, working with participants in well organized and carefully monitored recreation activities. Individual assignments vary depending on the particular recreation activity or program to which assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university with recreation or related field of study and have a requirement to complete an internship of graduation. Skilled in oral and written communication. Must be able to work an uncommon tour of duty. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and drug test. Must have a valid driver's license.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
