About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Aquatics Center, Kirtland AFB, NM. This position will be filled as a Flexible employment category. The tour of duty for this position will include weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights. Position requires current Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification, and CPR Certification. These documents must be provided prior to appointment.

Duties

Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. Requirements

• This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent to be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, and push/pull 100 pounds. Pre-employment lift test is required.
• This position requires the incumbent possess Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and Adult and Child CPR Certifications.
• This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
