You will serve as a Lead Firefighter(BLS/HAZMAT TECH) in the Public Safety Department of NAS KINGSVILLE TX.

Duties

You will perform an initial patient assessment in a medical emergency. You will coordinate training for junior employees within a department to promote growth for promotional opportunities. You will combat fire or rescue personnel onboard ships in a dangerous environment (e.g., small passages, small compartments, confined or unventilated areas, in the proximity of fuel tanks, gun mounts, or highly flammable or explosive cargo). You will direct the deployment and use of firefighting equipment and personnel on the scene of emergencies. You will establish initial on-scene control during hazardous materials incidents.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Will be assigned to a 40, 56 or 72 hour work week, including weekends and holidays.
  • You will be required to work a rotating work schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays, and is subject to mandatory overtime and recall.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • You will be required to be certified and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Typical work week is 72-hour week on a 24 hours on/24 hour off basis that includes weekends, and holidays. May be subject to recall and overtime.
  • This is a Rigorous Primary Position under firefighter Special Retirement Coverage.

Qualifications

I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Preparing reports concerning fire runs, training, maintenance, and inspections to keep supervisor informed; 2) Leading structural firefighting duties for facilities that include research and/or large industrial complexes; 3)Performing pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with layout, fire hazards and location of fixed fire protection systems to maintain up to date knowledge for fighting structural fires; 4) Leading crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic and/or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high; 5) Driving/operating firefighting vehicles to include pumpers, aerial ladder truck, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting vehicles considering factors such as wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft to maintain safety of operations; 6) Surveying hazardous material incidents to identify materials involved, determine whether hazardous materials have been released and surrounds conditions to predict likely behavior of hazardous materials; and 7) Administering emergency medical care and preparing victims for transport to medical facilities. This position requires possession of the following certifications: 1) Firefighter I and II, 2) HAZMAT Technician, 3) Fire Officer I, 4) Fire Instructor I, 5) Fire Inspector I, 6) Airport Firefighter, 7) Driver Operator-Pumper, 8) Driver Operator (ARFF). 9) Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic (NREMT-B)-(BLS) certification. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. NOTE: If you do not possess all of the above certifications, and provide verification with your application, you will be rated ineligible. The following certification, if not already held, must be obtained within 12 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: 1) Emergency Vehicle Operator Course 2) Driver-Operator Aerial.
