You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Base Safety Office of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will perform periodic and random inspections to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety and health laws and regulations. You will advise supervisors and safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous practices, processes and environmental conditions. You will plan, organize, coordinate, direct, evaluate and conduct mishap investigation in accordance with current mishap prevention orders and directives. You will provide technical safety training to installation and unit safety representatives, inspectors and their employees using a wide variety of methods and media. You will establish, guide and encourage supervisor-employee safety committees to identify and eliminate hazardous equipment operations and unsafe working conditions.

• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing technical safety advice and assistance to high level officials (e.g. commanders, directors, special staff officers, and managers) on matters pertaining to evaluation, inspection and implementation of subordinate activates, bases, and units, grounds safety programs and mishap investigation and reporting as they relate to the combat training and mission readiness. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
