About the Position: This position is with DENTAC, Fort Cavazos, TX.

Duties

Inspects clinic and worksites, environmental conditions, machine, and equipment operations. Advises managers and supervisors and employee safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health. Evaluates dental clinic(s) to ensure compliance of all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards Conducts and practices in opening and closing conferences with managers, supervisors and employee safety representatives. Conducts follow-up inspections of hazards noted to determine adequacy of corrective actions taken. Conducts safety and occupational health and patient safety surveys at a military dental organization

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Occasionally requires the wearing of respiratory protective devices. Employees may not have beards, sideburns, or other hair that will negate the effectiveness of the respiratory equipment by preventing an effective face-to-face piece seal.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes experience applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, and procedures while conducting safety and health inspections in a workplace environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationSafety and Health Training and EducationSafety and Occupational Health (SOH) Hazard ControlWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
