About the Position: The incumbent of this position ensures that employees have a safe and healthy work environment to provide quality care to patients. The work hours of this position are 0730 to1630 Monday through Friday. MAY be required to work overtime during hazardous conditions (weather, natural events, etc.).
Duties
Evaluate the effectiveness of an occupational safety and health program for improvement.
Manage the operations of an occupational health and safety program in a medical treatment facility.
Analyze mishap statistical data to identify problem areas that require remediation.
Advise on occupational safety and health laws to ensure program requirements are met.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Selectees may be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- On call is expected of this position given safety requirements for natural disasters, emergencies, weather events, etc.
- This is a mission and weather essential position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the EXPERIENCE requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes leading an industrial safety and occupational health program, performing health and safety assessments to ensure compliance, establishing guidelines to eliminate hazards, and advising on technical matters regarding occupational safety and health requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
