This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 7), Atlanta VA Health Care System (VAHCS), VA Community Care Service (VACC), in Atlanta, GA. The incumbent will provide managerial leadership, monitoring and expert technical health administration guidance to VACC staff, as well as consultative and support services to Service Lines throughout the facility.

Duties

The Supervisory Medical Administrative Specialist is responsible for a wide variety of functions related to VACC and other contract services; these include financial analysis, programmatic oversight of VACC, provider contract development and contract maintenance, information management. performance of clinical/financial feasibility studies, and support in strategic planning efforts. The Supervisory Medical Administrative Specialist serves as the immediate supervisor of the MSA Supervisors as well as other administrative positions located within VACC. One year supervisory experience and one year community care experience is desired. The Supervisory Medical Administrative Specialist duties include but are not limited to the following: Establishes and maintains good relations with Veterans, their families, visitors, and clinical and administrative employees. Provides oversight and management of administration activities within the community care department. Develops and tracks monitors for all program areas and identify need for changes in process functions or further evaluation. Manages staffing, budgeting, procuring, and training for the community care department. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets, and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Manages the medical administration operations and supports the mission, vision, and fundamental principles of the community care department. Recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment to positions. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/18/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. OR, 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree 1 year equivalent to at least GS-9 Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond . You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to Detail Clerical Critical Thinking Customer Service Human Factors Leadership Manages and Organizes Information Managing Human Resources Technical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires frequent standing bending, reaching and walking. The work requires light lifting and carrying under 15 lbs. Must have full manual dexterity and keyboarding skills.
