About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Puget Sound Market, Army Medical Center Madigan, Directorate of Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Tacoma, Washington.

Duties
Assist physicians in the treatment of patients with orthopedic conditions and injuries.
Maintain stock level of medical supplies used in surgical and treatment rooms and restocks as necessary.
Prepare clinic treatment rooms and cast room beds for specific type of procedures.
Ensure examination rooms are clean and examination tables are changed with clean linen, chux, and examination paper between patients.
Maintain awareness of the doctor's operative schedules to aid in the scheduling of patients for examination, dressing changes, wound care and minor surgery performed in the clinic.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Pre-placement medical examination
- Position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing in accordance with AR 600-85.
- Position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations in accordance with MEDCOM Operation Order 09-54.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification prior to employment in accordance with AR 40-68.
- Specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Temporary duty travel is 5%.
- Lift requirement of 20 pounds.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing basic medical tasks such as preparing clinic rooms, and collecting vital signs, This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Health Technician, or Orthopedic Technician.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
