This position is located at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Office of Finance (FN), Financial Management Division (FC). This position(s) primary purpose is to manage various types of accounting transactions in DEA's financial management system; performs analysis of financial information using queries and reports; accounting transactions, provides customer support, and performs payment management across all DEA offices.

As a Financial Management Specialist, your typical work assignments may include: Manages and oversees the processes of various types of accounting transactions. Performs analysis of financial information using queries and reports. Validates accounting data, reconciles accounts, analyzes accounting processes. Develops and documents Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Financial Division. Performs payment management across all DEA offices. Reviews incoming financial transactions for reimbursement for payment.

  • The incumbent must maintain required certifications and access to necessary systems to complete the work.
  • Incumbent is required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, the purpose of this report is to avoid conflicts between official duties and private financial interests or affiliations.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level you are applying for. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-9: Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B or J.D., if related. NOTE: Graduate education must provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the normal line of progress for the occupation in the organization: 1)Researching and interpreting financial regulations, policies and laws to provide substantive recommendations and advice to managers; 2) Analyzing and evaluating reports and data from financial systems to identify issues and discrepancies; and 3) Researching and interpreting financial policies and laws to resolve financial issues; OR To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Combination of Education and Experience:A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-11: Education:Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree NOTE: Graduate education must provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the normal line of progress for the occupation in the organization: 1) Performing financial analyst duties assisting and supporting the mission area/product line in the areas of budget maintenance and execution. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled; OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
