The incumbent serves as the primary contact for administrative, clinical, and clerical issues for the Environmental Health Program within the Ambulatory Care Department and is responsible for performing a variety of significant administrative, analytical, and technical functions, tasks, and special projects with respect to health care registries and other environmental areas of concern.
Duties
Major duties:
The Environmental Health Coordinator will manage/racks all Veterans' requests for all 6 Registries & -Non- Registry Exposure exams and manages all administrative processes that pertain to the EH Program which includes but not limited to:
Ensuring a medical record is established and updated as needed in the EHR and in the appropriate registry for each Veteran who receives a registry examination.
Entering data into the Environmental Agents Service (EAS) Registry database where applicable.
Reviewing records, such as EAS Registry examination worksheets, for accuracy and completion to ensure that data from the worksheets, letters and other records pertaining to the registry examination are included in the EHR as applicable.
Ensuring that military exposure questionnaires and diagnostic examinations (e.g., laboratory tests or X-rays) are completed prior to the registry examination by the clinician.
Preparing follow-up letters to Veterans on the results of their registry examinations.
Interviewing and determining Veterans' eligibility for registry examinations. Assisting Veterans, as needed, in accessing the online AHOBPR questionnaire and scheduling the optional health examination with the VA medical facility's EH clinician or a primary care provider.
Referring Veterans to Veterans Benefits Administration if they wish to file a claim for a service-connected disability.
Completing initial and ongoing training concerning registry programs.
In collaboration with the VA medical facility EH Clinician, ensuring that PACTs and other VA medical facility staff, as needed, are aware of VANJ's registry program and how to refer Veterans who are eligible to participate in these programs for a registry examination through the VA medical facility EH Coordinator.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/15/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Detailed knowledge and understanding of policies, regulation, directives, and procedures relating to Employee Health program with respect to health care registries to analyze/evaluate information, interpret guidance and draw conclusions; applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to plan and conduct studies and analyses to identify problems and potential problem areas based on daily observance concerning the efficiency and, effectiveness, and productivity of managed programs; effectively manage clerical functions and the flow of information; data collection and evaluation techniques to accurately manage veterans' data, identify and extract information, identify and correct deviations, and prepare justifications; preparing oral and written reports to provide information and consultation with staff. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's degree or two (2) full years of graduate level education leading to such a degree in a related field of study that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first year and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. Physical Requirements: The work requires some physical exertion, such as periods of walking, standing, or sitting within the assigned clinic areas. Some bending, climbing of stairs, and lifting of medical records or forms/supplies are required.
