You will serve as a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader in the Production Management, Aircraft Surfaces and Components Production Team Center of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will disassemble composite and honeycomb panels.
You will remove fittings, fasteners and attachments in preparation for damage removal.
You will disassemble, overhaul, repair, replace and modify miscellaneous small metal assemblies and/or parts such as floorboards, panels, supports, hinges, engine doors, stabilators and surfaces.
You will perform a variety of progressive static and dynamic examinations of assigned aircraft structural systems.
You will perform working leader duties, such as, providing instructions, demonstrating proper work methods, ensuring plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and distributing portions of work to keep crew productive.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to lead or supervise others performing the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Researching processes and tooling necessary to support the overhaul and repair of airframe skins and components constructed of honeycomb and composite material; 2) Performing examinations of assigned aircraft structural systems, components and accessories on workload such as wings, stabilizers, vertical and horizontal control surfaces, rudders, ailerons, flaps, and other common and complex components; 3) Reviewing detailed work instructions for the purpose of establishing perimeters relative to the extent of disassembly and procurement of required material; 4) Developing plans and organizing work for a group of employees; and 5) Providing technical assistance to personnel on overhaul and repair tasks.
