You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist in the Occupational Safety and Health Department of NAVSTA MAYPORT.

Duties

You will assess Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program operations to determine the effectiveness of established procedures. You will brief management on safety deficiencies identified and recommend corrective actions. You will analyze work tasks to determine existing or potentially hazardous situations.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying hazard control techniques affecting the safety and occupational health programs of the organization; 2) Preparing safety and occupational reports outlining the origin, root cause, or contributing elements of mishaps and/or hazardous conditions; 3) Advising the organization on safety and occupational health awareness; 4) Evaluating safety organizational/program processes. ??????? Education

Successful completion Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology

OR

Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience may be used to meet the specialized experience requirement.
