About the Position: Incumbent must possess the skills and knowledge to construct items; to select material required to effect repairs in accordance with specifications and work orders, etc; and the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and work with simple fractions to plan and measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions.

Duties

Selects materials required and transports them to shop or work site. Operates a motor vehicle with trailer to transport materials to and from ranges on installation and public roads. Cuts brush, tree limbs, and grass to clear lanes of fire by utilizing mowing machines, tractors with bush hogs, and/or other tools and equipment as required. Paints signs, targets, markers, and structures by using standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying by coating materials that are prepared to specific directions. Sets up power saws, drill presses, etc., for various cutting, shaping, and drilling. Constructs items from wood where specific fit and accuracy are within allowable limits to produce a serviceable product.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires working rotating shifts.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination to determine the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Louisiana Class "C" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials Endorsement.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in shop and on ranges with exposure to rain, heat, cold, dirt, dust, grease, noise, odor,smoke and fumes.Work is subject to rotational shifts, as required, to provide 24 hour range support during training exercises.Worker is subject to cuts from hand or power tools and danger from flying splinters, chips and sawdust. Incumbent is also subject to electrical shock and burns when using electrical equipment or performing maintenance.
