This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located in the TACOM, Field Support Operations, Fleet Management Expansion, located on Fort Leonard Wood.
Duties
Perform field level maintenance on a wide variety of electronic equipment and related devices.
Perform advance testing, adjustments, troubleshooting, services, and repairs on a variety of optical devices, subassemblies, and components.
Comprehensive trade knowledge of the practical application of electronic principles
Interpret a variety of technical electronic data in determining the work sequence and selection and use of various trade tools, testing, and measuring instruments.
Work with the optical systems and supporting mechanical and electrical systems of equipment such as: night vision goggles, and their mounts.
Determine when degradation of lenses, prisms, mirrors, and other elements requires repair or replacement.

- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained for this position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Mechanic (Optical Equipment Repair) ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: Performs advanced testing, adjustments, troubleshooting services, and repairs on a variety of electronic devices, computerized electronic systems, optical devices, common robotic systems, sub-assemblies, and other electronic components by applying thorough knowledge in the application of electronic principles. Determining the job sequence, choosing, and using different trade tools, testing, and measurement equipment, such as soldering irons and micro soldering units, requires interpreting a variety of technical electronic manuals. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: May be required to work in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work frequently requires climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment to work on the various components. Incumbent will frequently have to bend, reach, stretch, and crouch. Work is strenuous, often requiring the lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds. Incumbent will also push, pull, and turn heavy parts and equipment. Moves heavier items with assistance of other workers.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside. The incumbent is exposed to drafts, dirt, grease and vehicle fumes. Incumbent is exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, heat, snow, cold, and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in muddy and wet or icy areas when outdoors. Subject to burns, scrapes, cuts, bruises, shocks and strain.
