About the Position: This position is located in the Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Field Support Operations, Fleet Management Expansion (FMX), Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Duties

Perform field level maintenance on a wide variety of electronic equipment and related devices. Perform advance testing, adjustments, troubleshooting, services, and repairs on a variety of optical devices, subassemblies, and components. Comprehensive trade knowledge of the practical application of electronic principles. Interpret a variety of technical electronic data and make independent judgments in determining the work sequence and selection and use of various trade tools, testing, and measuring instruments. Deal with the optical systems and supporting mechanical and electrical systems of equipment such as: binoculars, night vision goggles, telescopes, spotter/target locator scopes, laser infrared observation devices, and their mounts. Determine when degradation of lenses, prisms, mirrors, and other elements requires repair or replacement.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained for this position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-employment physical examination to meet the physical efforts requirements of this position.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 25 pounds. May be required to lift and carry items weighing more than 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Use hand tools such as drills, chassis punches, wrenches, soldering irons and micro soldering units to remove and replace circuit parts and apply knowledge to obtain the optimum performance of a wide variety of electronic equipment, computerized electronic systems, optical equipment and Common Robotic Systems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. May be required to lift and carry items weighing more than 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs and miniature components. Working Conditions: Work accomplished inside is usually in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated area. Work accomplished outside the repair facility may require exposure to cold, heat and existing weather conditions, and may occasionally work in high or restricted places. Employee may be exposed to electrical shock, burns, cuts and bruises.
