About the Position: This position is located within the Naval Medical Center at Camp LeJeune, NC. The incumbent serves as a Medical Instrument Technician for gastroenterological procedures.

Duties
Provide direct assistance to the staff gastroenterology physicians during invasive gastrointestinal procedures.
Prepare patients prior to procedures and provide explanations of procedures to secure cooperation of patients.
Maintain, clean, and prepare medical instruments for use.
Stay up to date on medical knowledge and equipment usage through self-directed learning.
Recognize potential problems with patients and provide basic and/or advanced life support interventions.
Establishes and maintains a variety of files and records related to gastroenterology activities and functions.
Supply management; including ordering and maintaining log of necessary supplies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This is a Drug Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random employee drug testing.
- In addition to normal clinic hours Monday to Friday, the incumbent will be required to rotate and be on an “on call” basis to cover nights, weekends, or holidays to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- This position requires Advanced Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in a variety of gastroenterological procedures, setting up equipment for examinations, and preparing patients for medical procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Gastroenterology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
