About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide support to a four star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also work with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American Nations are substantial. We are looking for talented individuals to join the US SOUTHCOM team.
Duties
Provide annual training and guidance for provisioning and use of Government Travel Charge Card Program or as needed.
Answer complex Defense Travel System (DTS) and travel related inquiries.
Maintain established controls for the Command travel program and all travel systems.
Validate disbursements, accounting, and budget affecting travel, to include cross-organizational lines of accounting to outside organizations quarterly.
Assist Organizational Defense Travel Administrators (ODTAs) and Agency Program Coordinators (APCs) daily activities to manage tasks to include operating a Tier II level travel help desk.
Provide advice and assistance to travelers, routing officials and financial managers in relation to travel policy, transportation entitlements, travel requirements, processes and issues.
Perform complete review analysis quarterly to ensure compliance, determine trends and develop efficiencies.
Develop help desk references, local regulations or policies, processes and procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Financial Management Certification Level II.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating travel management systems with knowledge of the Joint Travel Regulation (JTR). 2) Utilizing MS Office such as Word, Excel, and Outlook to communicate verbal and written information. 3) Training others on travel procedures and policies. 4) Performing audits on travel program processes.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
