About the Position: This Administrative Support Assistant (Office Automation) position is with the Defense Language Institute, located in Monterey, California. This position serves as the primary administrative assistant to the manager of an organization.
Duties
Serves as the primary coordinator and scheduler for internal and external testing and faculty training, resolving schedule conflicts and relaying schedule changes to applicable personnel.
Gathers information, verifies facts, summarizes or extracts data from a variety of reports and arranges or organizes material in appropriate form to facilitate use by the manager and the subordinate supervisors.
Performs a variety of duties as organization's primary liaison with the Civilian Human Resources Servicing Center (CHRSC)/Human Resources Office.
Assists the manager in personnel administration and/or personnel management.
Screens all correspondence addressed to the manager and staff.
Requirements

To Qualify for the GS-05:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing customer service and utilizing personal computer with office software; AND 2) experience reviewing correspondence for correct format, grammar, spelling or punctuation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
To Qualify for the GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assists providing guidance on programs as it relates to clerical and administrative functions; AND 2) Prepares materials to be able to respond to correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Additional Minimum Qualification:
This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
