About the Position:
This position is located at within the Winn Army Community Hospital, Fort Stewart, Georgia. The incumbent will serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Program Manager for a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) within the Defense Health Agency (DHA) who will plan, implement, administer, inspect and evaluate the organization's Safety and Occupational Health Program and for its facilities.
Duties
Provide occupational safety oversight of public health command operations throughout the organization.
Schedule and conduct surveys/inspections, conduct safety training, provide safety oversight of health command operations, investigate accidents and manage accident regulatory recordkeeping responsibilities.
Serve as the technical authority for the organization’s safety and occupational health issues.
Investigates fatalities and serious accidents within the organization
Manage regional data in official safety management systems and accident reporting systems.
Develop and distribute safety educational material to employees.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Required to complete pre-employment physical and follow-up physical exams in accordance with Occupational Health requirements.
- Position is required to perform approximately 5% TDY/travel.
- Required to observe established safe working procedures and wear Personnel Protective Equipment clothing and/or equipment provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions.
- This is a Career Program 12 position; incumbent is required to complete Level One Certification skills related training within 12 months of appointment.
- Required to obtain necessary immunizations (i.e., Hepatitis B, annual influenza) unless exempted by a physician.
- Position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent may be required to report to work

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting safety and occupational health inspections of an organization; reviewing safety policies for compliance with federal and local regulations; recommending control measures for hazardous conditions; preparing documentation regarding safety violations and proper practices within an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
