About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist, with a focus in the explosives and ammunitions program, at the Installation Safety Office, located in Fort Stewart GA.

Duties

Monitor the effectiveness of explosive safety policies and procedures within garrison environment that present potential safety and health hazards to employees, civilians, contractors, and military personnel. Prepare and maintain licenses for explosives operations and ammunition storage for tenant unit ammunition facilities. Conduct periodic on-site review and analysis for activities for compliance with safety requirements. Responsible for actions designed to improve and control the explosives safety performance of the servicing unit activities. Investigate ammunition and explosive accidents and incidents. Coordinate with management officials within the Garrison, to include USATCES and Department of Army, and Tenant Unit Staff, senior engineers, test directors, health physicists, and industrial hygienist personnel. Prepare explosive safety site plans and safety submissions for routing through higher headquarters, U.S. Army Technical Center for Explosives Safety (USATCES), for Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board (DDESB) review and approval.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed SECRET background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization.
  • Incumbent must complete all required training to include the Professional Certificate Explosive Safety Level 2 (PCES2) (CP-12), within 12 months after entry on duty.
  • The duties of the position require incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement pf 10% of the time.
  • Position requires a pre-employment Physical Examination and annual examination thereafter, to ensure the continued required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
