Duties
Provide guidance to all operating levels concerning safety requirements and responsibilities.
Plan and organize a continuous program involving occupational safety and health for both military and civilian personnel.
Ensure compliance and enforcement of various Safety and Occupational Health subprograms.
Monitor work area and evaluate activities with known safety problems as indicated by a high record of work injuries, hazardous operations and environmental conditions.
Conduct independent and joint risk management studies for operation/exercises and assist with risk management decisions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a Career Program 12 position. Incumbent must complete all required training and achieve the CP-12 Level 1 and Explosives Safety Level 1 professional certificates within 12 months, or prior to deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
- Work requires frequent onsite surveys with prolonged standing, walking, crawling, climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching and other physical movements. May traverse rough terrain.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential. Incumbent may be required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Commander.
- This position is designated as Emergency Essential.
- This is a deployable Department of the Army Civilian position. As such, incumbent must pass an Initial and annual medical examination and receive/maintain up-to-date required immunization for the overseas or deployed location.
- May be required to wear protective clothing and equipment. The duty uniform is standard military issued clothing when deployed or in field conditions. Standard TA50 equipment will be issued per local requirements.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Vehicle driver's license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
- Percentage of time spent TDY is up to 50 (CONUS/OCONUS).
- This is a drug testing designated position. In accordance with AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, the employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to the appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must be able to qualify individually on common tasks selected by the supervisor from the Unit's Mission Essential Task List (METL). Weapons Qualification and NBC Training may be required annually and as necessary to meet expeditionary requirements.
- Must be able to obtain an official government passport.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- Continuous education and training is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes experience assisting with formulation, development, organization, execution, and assessment of a comprehensive safety program; providing technical safety advice and assistance to serviced units; collecting, maintaining and analyzing relevant safety data; conducting assessments; analyzing severity of hazards; developing and implementing control measures; providing safety education and training opportunities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
