This position is assigned to the Structural Unit of the Facility Management Service at the VA Loma Linda Health Care Facility. The Maintenance Mechanic conducts preventative maintenance inspections, and repairs or replaces parts as needed such as smoke door hardware and closures, and emergency lighting systems while assisting other sections in support of overall service work requirements.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Conduct preventative maintenance inspections
Repair or replace parts or assemblies
Lubricate items as needed such as fire and smoke door hardware and closures, emergency lighting systems and SEPSS
Assist Maintenance Mechanics in other sections in support of work requirements
Perform basic metalworking, soldering, and various types of welding
Have a sound knowledge of Mechanical, Carpentry, and Electrical fields
Have skill in the use of general and specialized tools such as electric hand drills, rivet guns, grinders, lifting jacks, and basic electrical test meters
Have knowledge of structural unit maintenance requirements
Complete tasks in accordance with established priorities and daily assignments
Ability to interpret work orders, sketches, schematics, and equipment manuals
Ability to follow instructions as given, exercise good judgment, perform quality workmanship, and complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
Responsible for the correct use of tools, equipment, and materials needed to complete assigned tasks
Observe safety rules and objectives and take necessary precautions to prevent injury to self and others
Utilize issued safety equipment during the accomplishment of assigned duties
Maintain tools and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition
Keep job site in an orderly and hazard free state and complete worksite cleanup as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be able to physically lift and handle heavy objects while assembling, repairing, and installing various mechanical unites related to the trade. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work from scaffolds and cramped positions over and around mechanical equipment for extended periods of time.
