About the Position: This position is located at Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. This position is a Temporary Promotion that can be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition. This is an obligated position.

Duties

Develops programs of instruction (POI's), lesson plans, advance sheets and related course materials for school and student use in Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) repair. Applies advanced education knowledge principles, practices, methods and techniques of mechanical, electrical and circuitry equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, repair and test ALSE Equipment. Monitors and evaluates progress in undergraduate courses, courses in advanced technical systems or lower level courses where students regularly have variety of problems. Conduct cross training for instructors and establish training programs for new instructors.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent is require to obtain and maintain Instructor training certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Incumbent is require to recertify every 5 years.

Individual Occupational Requirements Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR Experience: Specialized Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction - Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: 1) Demonstrating a practical knowledge of developing Programs of Instructions (POI), lesson plans, and course materials for school and student's use in Aviation Life Support Equipment AND 2) knowledge of ALSE Operations and Systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Aviation Science and Aeronautics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Curriculum DevelopmentFlight SystemsLearning and Program EvaluationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent GS-07.
