You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/GEOPHYSICIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/MATHEMATICIAN in the Hydrographic Department (NP4), Navigation Support Division (NP43), Special Projects Branch (NP433) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will request collection of geophysical, geological, and/or oceanographic data in data deficient areas.
You will extract, transform, and load environmental data sets meet processing requirements.
You will analyze and interpret processed data sets generate products for Fleet customers.
You will use scientific principles and critical thinking skills to improve processes increase efficiency.
You will use database queries, library searches, and outside agency contacts provide technical guidance that supports the timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
You will communicate with management and other team members to provide technical guidance that supports the timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
You will perform field duty aboard survey ships and aircraft support Command data collection requirements.
Provide training junior personnel processing techniques on environmental data sets.
Requirements

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience collecting, storing, and retrieving digital data, and the analyzing and interpretation of geophysical, acoustics, and oceanographic data collected on various survey platforms.
Experience correctly interpreting and resolving erroneous or conflicting data.
Experience developing new methods and techniques and determining the validity of geophysical and oceanographic data and probable area of investigations.
Experience determining the capabilities and limitations of available computer hardware data base administration, existing software and its effective utilization, and scientific programming.

Basic Requirements:
- Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.

Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
