Job opening: Machine Tool Operator

Salary: $24 - 28 per hour

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This a TERM position and may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years.

Duties

The incumbent will set up and operate machines to rebuild major parts for the reciprocating engines. Inspect and repair component parts for reciprocating engines. Make adjustments to machine to ensure dimensional accuracy. Correct machine feed to produce quality products.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machine Tool Operator~ without more than normal supervision. Operate various machines such as milling machines, lathes, planers, grinders, drill presses, power saws, metalizing equipment in the fabrication of parts and components for a variety of equipment such as various types of vehicles, artillery and small arms weapons, fire control instruments or missile components. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical Effort: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. There is frequent moving and lifting of parts and materials from 10 to 40 pounds and occasionally items weighing in excess of 45 pounds Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop that has adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation. There is some danger to skin and eyes from flying chips, abrasive particles, etc.; also to hands, fingers, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces and moving parts of machines. Ensures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines. The guidance for proper handling of hazardous materials/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Ensures that storage drums and other containers housing hazardous materials/waste are properly labeled and secured at all times. Reports any deficiencies to the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site. Immediately notifies supervisor of any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
