About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.
Duties
Determine work methods and techniques to be used in the machining of parts.
Determine which machine is required, the attachments to be used, and the proper sequence of operations on each machine.
Identify grade of material that parts are to be fabricated from and substitute optional material.
Use precision measuring instruments such as venire calipers, micrometers, scale and dial indicators to establish dimensional accuracy.
Select standard tools, jigs, fixtures and modify them as necessary to achieve dimensions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist Leader without more than normal supervision. Serving as working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. I can issue instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Check work in progress for compliance of supervisor instructions. Repair, overhaul and modify small arms weapons and combat vehicles components according to specifications.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Incumbent must work in standing, stooping, bending and reaching positions. Frequently handles items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds; however hoists, lifts and other Workers are available to assist with heavier items.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable odors, smoke and fumes and also there is danger to skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive particles, and hot metal; skin irritation from contact: with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds; and danger to the fingers, hands and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces and moving parts of machines.
