This position is located in the Office of Managing Director, Office of the Secretary, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) located in Washington, DC. Relocation expenses will not be paid. THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT MAY BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL POSITIONS WITHIN 90 DAYS.

Duties

As an Information Systems Support Specialist, the incumbent participates with the Manager or staff in providing segments of technical advice and guidance to FCC staff and the public regarding the agenda process, and the release and publication of Commission items. In conjunction with the Manager or staff develops considerable analysis  required  to determine the nature and extent of information needed, the specific research area, and/or the direct type of information requested (i.e., for the purposes of retrieving only the most pertinent information).  Responsible for responding to a variety of complex technical inquiries for information concerning research of specific FCC rules, and regulations, as well as programs administered by the Secretary's Office .Participates with the Manager or staff in providing segments of technical assistance in the design, development, configuration, implementation, evaluation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of FCC electronic documents and internet site system problems.  provides advice and guidance in the development of information for the internet site and maintains the Secretary's special website pages. Performs assigned portions of team projects that have a significant bearing on the success of the overall project. Works with the Manager and/or staff to plan, develop and evaluate new techniques and methods to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Implements procedures and guidelines to ensure the timely dissemination of complex legal and technical information, and documents received on a regular basis. Advises the Manager in planning, organizing and coordinating the specialized and complex work of the staff. Compiles comprehensive statistical data sheets and other detailed reports for Management.

Applicants must meet eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.  Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.   Title:  Information Systems Support Specialist (Trainee) TRAINEE POSITION OF:   Information Systems Support Specialist Pay Plan:  GS     Series:  301     Grades:  GS-9 THIS POSITION HAS POTENTIAL FOR ONE-TIME ACCELERATED PROMOTION IN 6 MONTHS. Upon satisfactory completion of an upward mobility training and developmental program the employee will be eligible for placement in a target position and grade of: Title:  Information Systems Support Specialist Pay Plan:  GS     Series:  301     Grade:  11 An individual training plan will be designed for the individual selected and will cover the entire training period.  The plan will specify developmental assignments involving on-the-job training as well as formal training courses. The training plan will correspond to the particular needs of the individual selected in order to meet the requirements of the target position. Note: Further advancement will depend upon the ultimate full performance grade level of the position and involve normal career progression based upon future performance, availability of work and completion of regular qualifications and time-in-grade requirements. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
