You will serve as a IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT/INFOSEC) in the Waterfront Field Support (10942), Waterfront & Productions Information Technology (IT) Support Division (1094), Information Technology & Cybersecurity (ITACS) Office (109) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide IT field engineering services.
You will diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer reported incidents involving a myriad of IT issues.
You will provide IT support for classified and unclassified systems and ensure that all changes adhere to the security and configuration requirements.
You will perform research, evaluation, and provide feedback on problem trends and patterns in customer support requirements.
You will develop written communication to address issues impacting or provide guidance to users regarding processes or upcoming initiatives.
You will ensure application of Information Security/Information Assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of customer support services.
You will perform duties and functions to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of the network and standalone Windows Desktops, printers, tablets, peripheral devices and data.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area IT Specialist level Intermediate within 12 months of appointment.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying information technology concepts, principles, methods, and practices sufficient to install, manage, and administer various workstations and peripheral devices and systems.
Experience implementing knowledge of IT Systems development life cycle management concepts to perform advanced strategic planning for end of life replacement to encompass budget requirements and lessen mission impact.
Experience planning and delivering a full range of customer service and support, and managing systems developed to effectively track and report on problems and resolutions.
Experience ensuring appropriate security measures are applied.
Experience communicating orally and in writing sufficient to prepare and update manuals, reports, user guides, instructions, operating procedures, news updates for customers, and present recommendations to all levels of management.
Experience with workstation build procedures and current workstation software, specifically Symantec Endpoint Encryption, Shavlik, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and McAfee (Trellix) Products.
Experience in maintaining Classified Navy Systems in accordance with Information Assurance mandates and applicable laws.
Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: creating initial/new accounts, as well as maintenance and deletion of existing account.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Utilizes customer request/reporting system to identify trends and develop metrics. Independently performs research, evaluation, and provides feedback on problematic trends and patterns in customer support requirements.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: attends meetings and technical workgroups representing NNSY with members of other shipyards and Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) personnel including but not limited to briefing senior level management.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Independently researches, evaluates, and provides feedback on problematic trends and patterns in business application accounts and network accounts.
