About the Position: This position is located within the Command office at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) for Army brigade-sized organizations, working with the Installation Senior Commander Lead SARC and command staff to manage the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) program.

Duties

Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) for Army brigade-sized organizations, working with the Installation Senior Commander, Lead SARC and command staff to manage the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) program. Maintain liaison with the Provost Marshal/CID, medical and legal services, and commanders to facilitate immediate response and accurate reporting of sexual assault incidents. Ensure sexual assault victim advocacy services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, both on and off post, for all service members and other persons covered by the SHARP Program. Ensure victims of sexual assault receive guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures. Provide policy guidance for victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault to subordinate unit commanders, first responders, and others requesting program policy. Develop and promote program publicity materials in accordance with approved SHARP campaign messaging, such as printed materials developed personally or by the staff. Provide informative and interactive training to ensure understanding of the reporting procedures, confidentiality, and other elements of the SHARP. Conduct response activities in the event of a sexual harassment complaint or sexual assault. Maintain continuity of prevention and response activities in both garrison and deployed environments, as required by the commander. Track services provided to victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment from initial report of sexual assault through disposition and resolution.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 3 Secret security clearance.
  • Background checks against all records required by law, Office of Personnel Management, Department of Defense, and Army will be conducted prior to entering on duty, and, IAW governing regulations, on a recurring basis while employed in the position.
  • State Criminal History Repository check is required for all states of residence in the previous five and/or up to ten years.
  • Required to self-report civilian arrests, the filing of criminal charges, and/or convictions of any criminal offense to their supervisors.
  • Must maintain an active D-SAACP certification and up-to-date commander appointment orders prior to having any victim contact or access to victim information.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle should the need arise to operate a government vehicle/motor pool vehicle.
  • Must successfully complete the required Sexual Harassment and Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) training and obtain and maintain DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP) certification within six months of employment.
  • May be required to carry a cell phone and be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a rotational basis, based on the needs of the organization.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement up to 25% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Work, Counseling, or Public Health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
