This position shift is from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, located in the Clinical Center Nutrition Department. The Nutrition Department prepares and delivers high-quality food to inpatients and day hospital patients. As a Food Service Worker, you will perform a variety of food service tasks in the Main Kitchen and/or Metabolic Kitchen in the areas of meal set-up, assembly, and delivery/pick-up.
Duties
As a Food Service Worker, your typical work assignments may include:
Filling requisitions from the Food Service, the metabolic kitchen, the clinic, and other hospital departments.
Ensuring that adequate stock levels are maintained; Complete inventory of bulk foods and fluids for assigned unit pantries.
Setting up tray-line and food preparation areas with dishes, silverware, trays, napkins, condiments, food items needed for daily meal preparation, and cold food items such as salads, desserts, bread, and beverages.
Assisting in simple food preparation by weighing, measuring, portioning, wrapping, peeling, and chopping foods as needed.
Assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes.
Delivering meals, nourishment, and supplies to patient care units, patient rooms, and/or outpatient clinics.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
- Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
- If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination, provide evidence of immunization and comply with the annual flu vaccination program.
- You must be able to lift and move heavy items weighing [40 lbs.] without reasonable accommodation.

- If selected, you will be covered by a bargaining unit (union).
- This position requires weekends, late shifts, rotational shifts and holiday hours.
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position.
