About the Position: The work is performed in the kitchen area where steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lit but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors. The worker is regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes. Hour of work will be either 5:00 A.M.-1:30 P.M or 9:00 A.M.- 5:30 P.M.
Duties
Weighs, processes, assembles and labels fruits, vegetables, and ingredients according to computer printed recipe worksheets.
Organizes ingredients so assembly of recipes can be efficiently accomplished. Arranges completed recipes according to delivery time, preparation area, and workstation.
Operates scales and measuring devices with minimal supervision.
Measures and weighs items daily for recipes using a cycle menu.
Receives fresh fruits and vegetables from the subsistence supply unit and inspects for freshness, quantity, and quality. Discards spoiled items and sets aside unripened items for future use.
Washes, peels, culls, cuts, seeds, and dices fruits and vegetables, cutting away inedible, bruised, and defective portions. Shreds, chops, slices, and dices fruits and vegetables.
Makes a variety of fruit, vegetable, and pasta/grain salads to include gelatin salads. Prepares sandwiches, salads, cold platters, and a variety of punches/drinks for future use.
Labels, dates and places food in proper storage. Performs cleaning tasks required to keep area, equipment, refrigerators, and freezer in a clean, orderly, and sanitary manner.
Cleans and sanitizes soiled utensils and equipment daily. Removes trash from working areas.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is, therefore, subjected to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position may be subject to a 1-year probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I can wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to prepare for cooking or serving; utilize a variety of measuring equipment for food preparation. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: The worker is subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. The worker may be required to work on ladders and perform heavy work such as scouring and scrubbing large-size cooking utensils and moving heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
