About the Position: Incumbent will work in multiple areas including dish room, pot room, and dining room facilities. The position will serve in a high temperature, fast-paced environment. The assigned shift will be 8 hours with a start time between 5:00 A.M.-11:30 A.M.,rotating weekends, and holidays.

Duties

Provide supervision of sanitation services for various stations throughout the NSD area of operations. Plan and schedule work assignments on a daily basis within the instructions and time limits provided. Makes additional assignments as work nears completion. Select workers and assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirements, methods, procedures; and instructs subordinates in new procedures and provides assistance when problems arise. Assure that equipment and supplies are maintained and properly used. Coordinates with supervisor to assure arrival of supplies and equipment at work site. Recommend performance requirements, promotions, reassignments, or other status changes of assigned personnel prior to initiation and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Counsel employees on problems, resolves informal complaints and minor grievances; refers those unresolved to supervisor. Conduct corrective interviews with employees and refers disciplinary problems to supervisor. Inform supervisor of anticipated vacancies in workload or other circumstances to obtain replacements or additional staff. Review subordinates' job descriptions for adequacy and accuracy and recommends suggested changes to supervisor. Maintain production reports and records for the unit. Implement provisions of personnel management programs where procedures exist in the organization such as, equal employment opportunity, time, leave, and overtime policies and practices, award systems, grievance procedures, and safety practices.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is, therefore, subjected to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • Employees assigned to this position are designated as Mission Essential and assume essential personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require a one-year Supervisory Probation Period.

Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsWork PracticesWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires continual standing and walking for prolonged periods of time, frequently stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling, and bending. Maybe required to work on ladders and perform heavy work such as scouring large size cooking utensils and moving heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen areas where steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably hot temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lit, but usually hot and noisy from food service activities. Worker is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. The worker is regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.
