The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Information Technology (IT) specialist responsible for squadron level administration, operation, and maintenance of the Force Support Squadron's (FSS) computer network and for providing technical assistance, training, and support to management and customers.
Duties
Administers the FSS local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN).
Administers the FSS Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance Program and protects IT assets against unauthorized, accidental, or deliberate modification, disclosure, and destruction of data.
Provides customer technical assistance and support.
Serves as Force Support Squadron Cybersecurity Liaison.
Provides guidance, assistance, and training to Force Support customers.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
- May be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
- Work may require lifting computers, printers, communications equipment.
- Information Assurance certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a primary duty requirement per DoD 8570.01-M.
- A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3 2 4 2 or C3 2 4 3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
Qualifications
This is a target position with known promotion potential to the full performance grade of GS-09. Selection can be made at any grade for which determined qualified. May be non-competitively promoted to the interim or target grade, subject to meeting eligibility/qualification requirements, at management's discretion.

GS 07: EDUCATION: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
OR
Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes; Ensuring basic IT principles, concepts, methods, advancement, polices, testing and applications, both hardware and software. Applies basic principles, concepts, and practices of the occupation sufficient to perform moderately difficult assignments.
GS-07 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements.
Knowledge of the network architecture, topology, and protocols typically found at base and lower level organizations.
Knowledge of configuration management concepts and practices to develop and implement plans for LANs and WANs.
Knowledge of customer support principles sufficient to receive, respond to, and ensure complete resolution of problems.
Knowledge of network customer use and systems maintenance sufficient to give needed guidance or training to customers and workgroup managers to prevent problem recurrences.
Ability to communicate factual and procedural information clearly, both orally and in writing.
GS-09:
EDUCATION: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes; Ensures LAN/WAN principles and practices sufficient to troubleshoot and maintain the stability of communication lines and equipment. Implements LAN/WAN standards and equipment sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers.
GS-09
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Knowledge of basic principles, concepts, and practices of Government Information Specialist.
Skill in applying basic principles, concepts, and practices of the occupation sufficient to perform entry-level assignments in Information Technology Specialist.
Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing.
Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.
Ability to plan and organize work and consult effectively with co-workers.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 07 level. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
