About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Victim Advocate Coordinator providing comprehensive assistance and liaison services to victims of domestic violence and abuse, and educating installation personnel on effective response.

Duties

Conduct interviews with victims or survivors of spouse abuse/domestic violence to determine required needs. Assess urgency of spousal abuse/domestic violence cases and at-risk families to develop and coordinate assistance and intervention for crisis situations. Maintain contact with clients/victims of domestic violence/spouse abuse to provide follow up support for ongoing needs. Coordinate assistance and support with law enforcement and/or sponsoring command. Conduct briefings and training on the dynamics of family violence and domestic abuse, availability of treatment services, and state law procedures. Provide information on legal rights and resources to victims of domestic violence and at-risk families, to include restricted and unrestricted reporting.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Position may require up to 5% TDY (business travel).
  • Occasionally required to work other than normal duty hours, on-call, or rotational shifts.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Social Work. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience providing professional advocacy services to victims of spousal abuse and/or domestic violence: 1) conducting interviews with clients to evaluate needs and assess risks; 2) developing appropriate plans of assistance/intervention for victims of domestic violence and at-risk families; 3) providing training and education on effective responses to domestic violence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree Or Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer ServiceInfluencing/NegotiatingInformation ManagementInterpersonal Skills Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
