About the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, NC, within the Directorate of Clinical Support, Clinical Nutrition Department. Incumbent will receive, inspect, sort, move, and store a variety of perishable and non-perishable good and supplies incoming to the facility.
Duties
Receive and unpack perishable and non-perishable goods that are delivered to the Department.
Inspect materials to verify they are correct and in proper condition.
Sort, mark, and store materials according to standardized operating procedures.
Move items manually, by hand cart, by other material-handling equipment, and by two passenger cargo van to designated areas.
Receipt and track materials by conducting regular inventory reviews.
Maintain storeroom and equipment clean and in working order.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position may require incumbent to routinely lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Incumbent must maintain a functioning method of communication to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of inclement weather conditions the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to unload a variety of perishable and non-perishable goods delivered to a nutrition management department. I am able to inspect materials for verification and condition. I am skilled in sorting and storing all materials in a warehouse setting. I can move items manually with various types of equipment and with vehicles. I have the ability to use computerized logistics systems to manage incoming and outgoing materials. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Grade 4 materials handlers are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They may lift and carry items that weigh up to 50 pounds. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
Working Conditions: At the grade 4 level, work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Materials handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapers, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
