This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serve as a Lead Security Guard for the US Army Installation Command USAG, Directorate of Emergency Services.
Duties
Protecting personnel and/or property by enforcing security procedures.
Preparing daily assignments to ensure guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
Providing on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
Overseeing access control for pedestrians and vehicles
Securing access points to comply with requirements during drills and/or actual emergency situations.
Verifying identification through appropriate means to comply with security requirements.
Entering data into automated forms to provide visitor passes.
Overseeing the completion of reports prior to submission to senior personnel.
Following security regulations during the vehicle searches to ensure safety of all concerned.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
- Shift work is required.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- This position requires the incumbent to qualify semiannually with their assigned firearms.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
- Army physical fitness/agility test required.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of Domestic Violence are not eligible for this position
- Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience with federal, state, municipal or private protective organization to include: Interpreting and applying access control based on standard operating procedures, written orders, and laws and regulations to determine appropriate authorization for access; safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets; using physical access control equipment; and responding to traffic incidents, emergency situations and security threats. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
